New building for the Cluster of Excellence

The Joint Science Conference (GWK) announced its final decision on the financing of new research buildings on July 5th. The federal government will cover half of the costs for the new Microverse Center Jena amounting to more than 40 million euros. The other half will be borne by the Free State of Thuringia.

Construction will start in 2020 and is planned to be completed in 2024. The 4,900 square meter research center will become the core premises of the new Cluster of Excellence Balance of the Microverse, which the Friedrich Schiller University (FSU) of Jena was awarded in September 2018. In May, the proposal for the Microverse Center Jena was evaluated positively by the German Council of Science and Humanities (WR) and recommended for funding. The building will provide the research infrastructure for new research groups of the Microverse Cluster. New laboratories and networking spaces will promote the interdisciplinary collaboration and support intensive intellectual exchange in the Cluster, thus contributing to the international visibility of the research location Jena.
